Medieval Rothenburg Germany

During the medieval age, Rothenburg was regarded as the second-largest city in Germany. On the other hand, it was also a Free Imperial City. But, the 30 years’ war-affected Rothenburg severely and since then its growth hasn’t been that great.

However, Rothenburg continues to hold on to the tag of being one of the best-preserved medieval walled towns of Germany.

4 Exciting Things to do in Medieval Rothenburg

Check out the Town Hall (Rathaus)

The imposing town hall which dominates the Marktplatz is considered to be one of the finest constructions in Southern Germany.

This architectural marvel was constructed way back in the 13th century and faces the gorgeous Herrngasse. 3 centuries later, in the 16th century a 50-meter-high tower was added to the already beautiful town hall. Want to enjoy some superb views. Climb to the top of the tower!

The market-facing part of the town hall was constructed way back in 1578 which hosts concerts & theatricals in the Imperial Hall. Apart from this, you can also explore the Council Tavern & the Old clock.
